Oh how I wish I could transport myself to Paris for an afternoon. Having come across this, this morning I instantly wanted to be there shuffling along the shelves, rooting out things of interest, something peculiar to take home for my petit séjour.

Ps. Test out your leaving cert french above

Merci opened its doors in 2009, coveting a 1500sqm old wallpaper factory. Their motto is simple- “j’ai ce que j’ai donné” , “I am what I gave”. Set up by Bernard Cohen and Marie-France after selling their successful childrens fashion label Bonpoint, they imagined a commercial business that would raise money for charity. They brought several designers on board(Stella McCartney,Isabel Marant, Jérôme Dreyfuss, Marni, Paul & Joe, Stella McCartney, Swildens, Christian Tortu, YSL and much more) and got them to sell their designs at cost price..meaning all other profits raised to go direct to the chairty involved.

The space itself, and I can only go by hearsay, is a labyrinth of interest:A charity book section, where you can sit and while away a few hours with a coffee/ tea and some of the donated books, an Anick Goutal laboratory to make your own scent, a flower shop by Christian Tortu…

It’s a strangely sunny and lovely afternoon in Dublin but amidst my appreciation for the capital in the sun I still wish to be browsing the aisles of Merci, for a little while at least.
